Somebody Has to Write the Thing People Actually Read
Most product pages are skimmed for 3 seconds and then closed. Ours don't, and that's the job — a remote Product Copywriter who can take a spec sheet nobody wants to read and turn it into three sentences somebody screenshots to a friend. If you've ever rewritten a product description in your head while shopping because the real one was boring, keep reading.
Work from your kitchen table, a co-working desk, wherever. Naukri Mitra doesn't track your location — just the copy you send over.
The Actual Work Week
Some days you're knocking out ten short listings before lunch. Other weeks you're deep in one category page for five straight days, going back and forth with a designer about where a headline breaks. Both happen. Here's roughly what fills the calendar:
- Product descriptions, landing pages, feature announcement copy
- Turning dry technical briefs into something a customer actually wants to finish reading
- Sitting in on design reviews so copy and layout don't fight each other
- Rewriting older product pages that are underperforming or just outdated
- Keeping voice consistent whether you're writing about a $20 item or a $2,000 one
- Pulling ideas from competitor listings and customer reviews — people tell you exactly what language sells if you read enough reviews
- Taking edits fast and without ego
What Gets You Hired
Two years, minimum, actually writing copy for a living — not blogging as a hobby, not "I helped with marketing once." A product, retail, or e-commerce background is ideal, but not the only path in.
A bachelor's degree, or something that clearly substitutes for it. You'll need to write cleanly under a deadline without someone standing over your shoulder, and you should already understand the basics of how SEO shapes a product page, even if you're not the one running the keyword research. Bring writing samples. A portfolio link is fine; three good examples pasted into an email work just as well.
Would Be Nice, Not Required
- Shopify, WordPress, or similar CMS experience
- Ahrefs or SEMrush familiarity
- Ever run an A/B test on copy and actually looked at the results
- Email or social copy alongside product pages
- Enough HTML to drop copy straight into a template without breaking it
Pay and What Comes With It
$50,000 a year. Beyond that:
- Fully remote, flexible hours across time zones — no mandatory 9-to-5 window
- Health coverage contribution
- Paid time off, sick days included
- A yearly budget for courses or tools, your choice, as long as it's writing-related
- Bonus tied to how your campaigns actually perform
- A stipend to set up your home workspace properly
Who You'd Be Working With
Small team. A few writers, a couple of designers, one or two marketers who actually read your drafts instead of skimming them. Feedback here is direct — sometimes blunt — but it's aimed at the copy, not you. Naukri Mitra built this team on the idea that product writing is a skill worth paying attention to, not something you bolt on after the launch is already planned. Async updates, short meetings, more time writing than talking about writing.
Six months in, if your work's been solid, you're not still doing the same ten listings a day — you're handling bigger categories, maybe mentoring whoever we hire next.
Apply
Send a resume and two or three samples — something persuasive, something more technical, something short and tight. A cover letter isn't required, but a line or two on why product copy interests you helps. We go through applications as they come in rather than waiting for a cutoff date, so you'll hear back — one way or the other — within about two weeks.
If you got this far and you're already editing a line above in your head — yeah, that's the instinct we're looking for.
