Three good weeks, then a bad Tuesday undoes half of it. The baseline requirements
You'll need a
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or something in that neighborhood. Licensure matters too — it's strongly preferred, and most of the client work here effectively requires it. On the experience side:
2 years in counseling or rehabilitation. It doesn't have to be rehab-specific, but that background gives you an edge.
What separates people who do well here from people who just get through it:
- Not jumping to fix something before a client's actually said what's wrong
- Staying level when someone slides backward, rather than treating it as proof the whole plan failed
- Actual ease with digital therapy tools, past just knowing how to log in
- Saying complicated things simply enough that they don't need repeating three times
- Figuring out a plan for someone whose situation doesn't match any case you've handled before
Bonus points for
- Work with clients recovering from physical injury or disability
- Vocational rehab experience, or helping people re-enter work after time away
- Comfort switching between different telehealth or case management systems
