What This Role Is Really About
You'll work directly with teachers, program leads, and school administrators to strengthen the way their courses are designed, delivered, and experienced by students. Some days that means auditing a course that isn't landing with learners. Other days it's coaching a first-year teacher through their first fully virtual semester, or helping a district choose between three competing LMS options. The thread running through all of it: making remote education genuinely usable for the people relying on it.
Your Day-to-Day
- Review existing online courses and identify where content, pacing, or structure is losing students
- Redesign course layouts and learning paths so they support measurable progress, not just content delivery
- Partner with instructors to rebuild or refresh materials for virtual delivery
- Translate feedback from students and teachers into specific, actionable course changes
- Run one-on-one coaching sessions and group workshops for educators at every experience level
- Recommend and help implement digital tools suited to a team's actual workflow, not just what's trending
- Coordinate with IT staff, content teams, and instructional staff to launch new online initiatives
- Track projects from initial concept through rollout and post-launch review
- Monitor student progress data and use it to guide ongoing adjustments
What You'll Bring
This isn't an entry-level position, and it shows in the day-to-day expectations. You should be someone who's already spent real time inside online education — not just using it, but improving it.
- Education: Bachelor's degree required (fields such as education, instructional design, or a related discipline preferred)
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years working in online program consulting, instructional design, or virtual course development
- Hands-on experience with at least one major LMS platform (Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle)
- A track record of improving course outcomes, not just maintaining them
- Comfort presenting to and coaching educators who range from tech-confident to tech-hesitant
- Strong written and verbal communication across distributed, remote teams
- Ability to read student performance data and turn it into concrete recommendations
- Self-directed work habits — this role has little day-to-day oversight
Nice-to-Haves
None of the following are dealbreakers, but they'll help you hit the ground running:
- A Master's degree in education, instructional design, or a related field
- Experience with authoring tools such as Articulate or Adobe Captivate
- Prior work managing cross-functional projects using tools like Asana, Trello, or Notion
- Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital learning content
- Experience mentoring or training new instructors in a virtual environment
The Tools You'll Use
You'll be working across a fairly standard but well-integrated stack: learning management systems like Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle for course structure; Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams for live sessions and collaboration; Articulate and Adobe Captivate for building instructional content; and reporting dashboards for tracking student progress in real time. Project coordination happens through Slack, Trello, Asana, or Notion, depending on the team you're supporting.
Working Remotely, On Your Terms
This is a fully remote position, and the flexibility is genuine — not a line item. You choose your workspace, structure your hours around your own productivity patterns, and manage your workload with a good amount of independence. That said, this isn't isolated work. You'll check in regularly with peers and leadership, and collaboration is expected even without a shared office.
