Remote Underwriting Assistant
Somebody has to catch the missing signature, the mismatched policy number, the field that got left blank. That's this job. We're looking for a Remote Underwriting Assistant who can sit within our underwriting workflow, keep the paperwork clean, and ensure our underwriters aren't chasing down basic information they should already have.
It's not glamorous work every single day. But it's the kind of work that either holds a team together or quietly lets it fall apart, and we'd rather hire someone who takes that seriously than someone chasing a title.
The Day-to-Day
You'll spend most of your time in three places: applications, data entry, and email. Underwriters hand you applications to review before they move forward — you're looking for gaps, inconsistencies, or anything that doesn't match company or industry standards. When something's off, you're the one reaching out to the broker to sort it out.
- Review incoming applications and flag anything incomplete or inconsistent
- Cross-check policy details against company guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Enter and update policy data in underwriting systems, then audit your own entries
- Email brokers and internal teams directly to close information gaps
- Keep digital files organized and ready for audit at any point
- Pull background research on applicants and summarize it for underwriters in a few clean lines
None of this requires you to be an underwriter. It does require you to notice things other people skim past.
How You'll Work
This role is fully remote, and we mean that in practice, not just on paper. Slack handles most conversations. Airtable and Trello keep tasks visible so nothing gets lost between people. We run our applications through secure, purpose-built policy platforms, and automated email tools take repetitive outreach off your plate, so you're not manually sending the same follow-up 50 times a week. You'll need a stable internet connection and a setup that lets you actually focus — beyond that, where you work from is up to you.
What We Need From You
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent, minimum
- At least 1 year of experience in administrative, underwriting, or insurance support work
- Strong email and written communication skills
- Genuinely sharp attention to detail — this is the job, not a bonus trait
- Comfortable managing your own schedule and hitting deadlines without someone checking in constantly
- Reasonably fast with new software and digital tools
Nice to have, not required
- A four-year degree in a business or finance discipline
- Prior use of CRM or policy management software
- Some exposure to P&C insurance lines
- Experience with data validation or quality-control work
If you're the kind of candidate who searches Naukri Mitra for remote roles with real structure — not just flexible hours, but actual process and clear expectations — this fits that description.
Pay and Benefits
The role pays $60,910 USD annually. Beyond salary, here's what's actually on offer:
- 100% remote, with flexibility in how you structure your day
- Unlimited PTO — used, not just offered
- A mental health and wellness stipend
- Fully paid professional development and certifications
- Protected weekly time to work on process improvements, not just tickets
Where This Can Go
People don't stay in this exact seat forever, and we don't expect you to. Get comfortable with our systems and the underwriting side of the business, and there are real paths forward — into full underwriting, analytics, or operations roles. You'll get regular feedback, not just an annual review, and mentorship from people who've made that same move before you.
The Team You'd Be Joining
We're distributed across time zones, and we've stopped pretending that's a problem. Video calls are casual. Dogs show up on camera. Nobody's performing enthusiasm — we just expect people to show up prepared and communicate honestly when something's not working. Autonomy is real here, which also means the accountability that comes with it is real too.
Applying
Send your resume along with a short note on why underwriting or insurance operations interests you — we read those notes, so skip the generic cover letter template. We review applications as they come in and move quickly with candidates who demonstrate the accuracy and communication this role requires. Open to applicants in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, India, and other eligible regions.
