Remote Music Curator

πŸ“ Anywhere 🏷️ Media & Content Creation πŸ’° $72,500 / year
Put twelve good songs in the wrong order and the whole thing falls flat. Sequencing is half the job. We're hiring a Remote Music Curator to build listening experiences that actually hold together β€” fully remote, $72,500 a year.

The Job, Roughly

Half instinct, half spreadsheet. You'll spend real time finding artists before anyone else has heard of them, then turn that discovery into playlists people don't skip through. The other half is watching the numbers and adjusting when your gut and the data disagree β€” because sometimes they do, and the data usually wins.

Playlists

  • Build playlists around mood, genre, or a specific campaign β€” not just a generic "top tracks" dump.
  • Keep collections current. New releases, new artists, listener feedback β€” none of it should sit stale for long.
  • Pay attention to how one track leads into the next. Bad sequencing kills a good playlist fast.

Digging for New Music

You'll spend time in places most listeners don't β€” indie scenes, smaller platforms, artists who haven't broken through yet. Part of the job is evaluating submissions and new releases with an actual ear, not just a checklist, and building real relationships with artists and labels along the way. Sometimes that turns into an exclusive feature or early access nobody else gets.

Working With Other Teams

  • Marketing and content teams, mostly β€” building audio that fits a specific campaign's tone.
  • Product, when it's time to test how a playlist actually performs across the app.
  • Social, so the work you curate has a shot at actually reaching people.

The Data Side

Skip rates, completions, shares β€” you'll live in these numbers more than you'd probably expect for a creative role. When something isn't landing, the data usually tells you before your gut does. A/B testing helps too, especially when you're trying to figure out what resonates with a specific audience versus what just resonates with you.

What It's Like Day to Day

Fully remote, genre-deep workshops now and then, regular sync meetings that don't feel like a waste of time. There's real autonomy here β€” nobody's dictating every playlist decision β€” but you're still part of a team that actually talks to each other about music, not just deadlines.

Tools You'll Touch

  • Ableton or Logic β€” basic familiarity helps, though this isn't a production role.
  • Playlist management and CMS tools built for streaming platforms.
  • Analytics dashboards for tracking engagement.
  • TikTok, SoundCloud, Instagram β€” for spotting where trends are actually starting.
  • Notion, Slack, Trello for the everyday coordination.

What Gets You Hired

  • Minimum required education: High school diploma or equivalent. Real music knowledge matters more than a credential here.
  • At least 2 years in music curation, playlist editorial, or something close to it.
  • Genre range β€” ambient, lo-fi, punk, K-pop, global sounds. Not just one lane.
  • A track record of catching trends early, before they're obvious.
  • An actual sense of narrative in how a playlist unfolds start to finish.
  • Comfort reading engagement data and letting it change your mind sometimes.
  • Strong communication, and genuine willingness to take feedback rather than just nod at it.

Bonus, Not Required

  • Time spent in music editorial or playlist roles at a streaming platform.
  • Some grasp of licensing or sync for commercial use.
  • A real interest in surfacing artists who don't usually get the spotlight.
You'll sometimes find postings like thisΒ onΒ Naukri Mitra, which connects music curators with remote teams building out audio experiences at scale.

Room to Grow

This role doesn't stay static for long if you're good at it. There's a mentorship track connecting curators with producers and A&R people, and room to pitch your own themed curation projects or lead a partnership with an artist or event. The work also extends beyond straightforward playlists β€” audio branding for campaigns, wellness apps, and gaming environments. It adds up to a broader skill set than just running a streaming feed.

Pay and Benefits

  • $72,500 annual salary.
  • Fully remote, with real flexibility in how you structure your day.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid time off plus standard holidays.
  • A budget for relevant workshops and industry events.
  • Access to the team's mentorship program.
