Remote IoT (Internet of Things) Consultant

📍 Anywhere 🏷️ Cloud & IT Infrastructure 💰 $55,500 / year
Somewhere between a sensor reading and a business decision, there's a translation problem. Devices generate data constantly, but most organizations struggle to turn that data into something useful, secure, and scalable. That's the gap we're hiring a Remote IoT Consultant to close.

The Role in Plain Terms

You'll work directly with clients who have an idea — a smart factory floor, a connected building, a fleet of sensors feeding into a dashboard — and help them turn it into a system that actually runs reliably. That means strategy conversations early on, technical architecture in the middle, and hands-on troubleshooting once things go live. You're not handing off a slide deck and walking away; you're staying close to the work until it functions as intended. This role suits someone who can hold both ends of the job at once: the big-picture strategy a client's leadership team wants to hear, and the technical detail an engineering team needs to actually build it.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Guide clients through IoT strategy, device selection, and secure implementation, from early proof of concept through full-scale rollout.
  • Design system architecture and integration plans for connected device networks.
  • Recommend hardware, connectivity, and security approaches suited to each client's goals and constraints.
  • Work with engineers and product leads to translate business requirements into working connected solutions.
  • Build dashboards and reports that turn raw device data into insights teams can act on.
  • Identify gaps in existing data workflows and recommend fixes that improve performance.
  • Document processes, lessons learned, and best practices so future projects build on what's already been solved.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, such as engineering, computer science, or information systems.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years working in IoT consulting, systems integration, or a closely related technical role.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major IoT platform — AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or Google Cloud IoT.
  • Practical knowledge of sensor integration, device management, and API-based automation.
  • A working understanding of real-time analytics and how to turn device data into business-relevant reporting.
  • Comfort explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, in writing and on calls.

Where You Can Stand Out

  • Experience assessing security risk and building compliance requirements directly into IoT architecture.
  • Familiarity with agile workflows and remote collaboration tools like Notion, Jira, or Slack.
  • A track record of designing onboarding or training that helps new users adopt unfamiliar technology with confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale a pilot project into a larger rollout without starting from scratch.

Compensation and Benefits

This position pays $55,500 annually. Alongside salary, you'll receive:
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage designed for remote consultants.
  • Paid time off, along with a wellness stipend and home office support.
  • A genuinely flexible schedule — the work is judged on outcomes, not hours logged.
  • Access to mentorship and peer feedback to keep sharpening your technical and consulting skills.

Who Fits Well Here

You'll do well in this role if you're naturally curious about how systems fit together and patient enough to explain that to people who don't share your technical background. IoT projects rarely go exactly as planned on the first pass, so a bit of comfort with ambiguity goes a long way. Postings like this one show up on job boards, including Naukri Mitra, but what tends to separate strong candidates isn't just technical fluency — it's the ability to earn and maintain a client's trust through the messy middle of a rollout, not just the polished proof of concept. You'll be working closely with engineers, product leaders, and sometimes a client's own internal teams, so this isn't a role for someone who prefers working in isolation.

Growth From Here

IoT consulting is still a young enough field that strong performers can shape their own specialty — security architecture, large-scale rollouts, or a particular vertical like connected manufacturing or smart infrastructure. As you take on more complex engagements, there's a clear path toward leading projects independently or mentoring newer consultants coming up behind you.

How to Apply

Send your resume along with a short note on an IoT project or integration challenge you've worked through — what made it hard, and how you solved it. We welcome applicants from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, India, and other eligible regions worldwide.
