Industrial Design Engineer who enjoys that kind of work and wants to do it from wherever they're based, fully remote, with a team that treats design as a serious engineering discipline rather than an afterthought.
What This Role Actually Involves
You'll take products from rough concept through to manufacturable reality. That means building 3D models and physical prototypes, working through usability and manufacturability trade-offs, and staying involved all the way to production handoff. You won't be designing in isolation — engineers, product managers, and marketers will all have a stake in what you create, and part of the job is making sure their input actually shapes the outcome instead of getting lost in translation.
Expect a mix of independent focus work and collaborative problem-solving. Some days you'll be deep in CAD; others you'll be on a call walking a manufacturing partner through tolerances, or presenting a revised concept to stakeholders who weren't sold on version one.
Your Day-to-Day
- Build detailed 3D models and functional prototypes using industry-standard design software
- Translate product requirements into designs that balance usability, aesthetics, and cost of manufacture
- Research market trends and competitor products to keep design decisions grounded in reality, not guesswork
- Incorporate user feedback and test data into iterative design revisions
- Write clear technical documentation — specifications, drawings, and materials lists that a manufacturing team can actually work from
- Confirm designs meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate physical prototyping with manufacturing partners and oversee testing for durability and performance
- Report progress to internal teams and external partners, including presenting concepts that may face pushback

What You Bring
We need someone who's done this before and can show it. Specifically:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in industrial design, engineering, or a related field (minimum requirement)
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in industrial design, backed by a portfolio of shipped or near-shipped work
- Solid working proficiency in design software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, or AutoCAD
- Real understanding of manufacturing processes, material properties, and ergonomic principles — not just theoretical knowledge
- Strong problem-solving instincts and the creativity to find a third option when the first two don't work
- A track record of managing multiple concurrent projects and hitting deadlines without in-person oversight
- Comfortable communicator who can hold their own in virtual meetings across time zones
