What You'll Be Sketching
Illustration sits at the center of this role — not as a support function, but as the first visual step in a garment's life. Your sketches are what a brand sees before anything gets cut or stitched, so the work carries weight from day one.
- Create digital fashion sketches for women's, men's, and unisex collections, built from mood boards and design briefs
- Translate trend and design themes into fresh, brand-aligned visuals rather than generic renderings
- Produce layered, annotated sketches that patternmakers and production teams can work from directly
- Pitch original sketch concepts for upcoming collections and seasonal drops
Working With the Wider Team
You won't be sketching in isolation. Expect regular back-and-forth with designers, stylists, and art directors as concepts get refined, plus feedback rounds where you'll revise illustrations quickly without losing the intent behind them. Design workshops and brainstorming sessions are part of the rhythm here, and your visual perspective is meant to shape those conversations, not just respond to them.
Staying Ahead of Trends
Fashion moves fast, and your sketches need to keep up. That means tracking seasonal colors, silhouettes, and materials, and staying current through virtual fashion events and industry webinars. It also means keeping your own work organized — a structured digital portfolio of completed and in-progress pieces, with files and revisions labeled clearly enough that anyone on the team can pick up where you left off.
What You'll Need
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in fashion illustration, digital design, or a closely related creative field
- Strong illustration skills with real attention to fabric flow, silhouette, and detail
- Proficiency in digital sketching tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, CorelDRAW, or a tablet sketching interface
- Comfort working across time zones with international, fully remote teams
- Solid organizational habits — this role involves managing multiple projects and deadlines at once
