An invoice goes out with the wrong total. A reconciliation is off by a few dollars nobody can trace back. Small stuff βuntil it isn'tβsomeone has to catch it before it compounds. We're hiring a Virtual Accounting Clerk to be that person, keeping the books accurate from home, full-time.
The Basics
$98,500 a year, fully remote. You'll be hands-on across bookkeeping, invoicing, reconciliations, and reporting β not boxed into just one slice of the accounting cycle.
What Actually Fills Your Day
- Recording daily transactions and keeping general ledger accounts current, AP and AR included
- Generating and sending invoices, chasing down late payments, sorting out billing disputes
- Running regular bank and credit card reconciliations, documenting what you find
- Helping with payroll β hours, deductions, staying compliant with tax rules
- Entering and organizing financial data across whatever software the team uses
- Pulling together documentation when audits come around, internal or external
- Putting together financial summaries for management to actually use
- Speaking up when something's inefficient, not just doing it the same way because that's how it's always been done
What Gets You Considered
- Education: Bachelor's degree required
- Experience: 3 years minimum in accounting or bookkeeping
- Comfortable in QuickBooks, Xero, or something similar
- Strong Excel skills, not just basic formulas
- Genuinely detail-oriented, especially with repetitive, high-volume entry work
- Can juggle deadlines without letting accuracy slip under pressure
- Can explain a financial detail to someone who doesn't work in finance without losing them
Good to Have
- CPA certification or a formal bookkeeping credential
- Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms
- A history of catching problems early, before they turn into bigger ones
- Comfortable picking up new software fast when a process changes
Why the Boring Parts Matter
Good reconciliation work is invisible by design β nobody notices when it's done right. But a clean set of books means a business owner isn't blindsided at tax season, a vendor doesn't have to send a follow-up email about a late payment, and an audit doesn't turn into a fire drill. Naukri Mitra built this role around exactly that kind of quiet reliability β it's less glamorous than it sounds, but it's the part that actually protects a business.
What You Get
- Fully remote, with a schedule flexible enough to support an actual life outside work
- Support toward certifications and continued growth in accounting
- Paid time off, standard holidays included
- A team that cares about precision without hovering over how you get there
Who Tends to Do Well
Not necessarily the fastest typist. More often, it's whoever double-checks their own work out of habit, catches a mismatch before anyone else even notices, and stays organized without needing someone to check in constantly. Bonus points if you notice a recurring inefficiency and just fix it instead of waiting to be told.
This Role Fits You If
- You take real pride in clean, accurate records
- You're self-motivated and actually like working remotely, not just tolerating it
- You want steady growth in accounting, not a role that stays static forever
Applying
Send a resume, plus any relevant certifications and a quick note about a discrepancy or accounting problem you caught and fixed. Shortlisted candidates get a short practical exercise, then a final conversation.
