We're hiring a
Technical Writer for a fully remote position, working on documentation across software products, APIs, and user-facing guides rather than one narrow content type.
What the Role Covers
You'll take input from developers, product managers, and subject matter experts, then turn it into documentation people can actually use — not documentation that just proves something was written. That means user manuals, API references, release notes, and internal guides, depending on what a given project needs. Some of it's straightforward. Some of it requires sitting with an engineer for an hour just to understand what you're documenting in the first place.
- Writing clear, accurate documentation for software products and features
- Creating user guides, API documentation, and release notes as needed
- Working directly with developers and product teams to get technical details right
- Simplifying complex concepts without stripping out the accuracy that matters
- Maintaining consistency in tone and structure across a documentation library
- Updating existing docs as products change, instead of letting them go stale
What You'll Need
- A body of past documentation work you can actually show, not just a line on a resume claiming writing ability
- Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly, even outside your original area of expertise
- Comfortable interviewing engineers or product managers to fill gaps in your own understanding
- At least two years of technical writing experience, in-house or freelance
- Basic familiarity with documentation tools like Confluence, MadCap Flare, or similar platforms
- Attention to detail — a wrong step in a setup guide causes real problems for the reader
Good to Have
- Experience documenting APIs specifically, including request/response examples
- Some background in a technical field — software, healthcare tech, or engineering
- Familiarity with markdown or a static site generator for docs
- A writing sample where you turned something genuinely confusing into something clear
