Day to day, here's what you're doing

- Draft layouts, elevations, and sections for residential projects, single-family through multi-unit
- Convert client sketches and design feedback into precise, construction-ready plans
- Join live meetings with architects and engineers to keep projects moving instead of stalling in email threads
- Revise drawings fast when scope or requirements shift — and they will shift
- Build supporting visuals: diagrams, 3D models, presentation materials that help non-technical stakeholders actually see the design
- Check your own work thoroughly before it reaches a contractor — errors here cost real money downstream
- Flag process bottlenecks and suggest better ways to collaborate remotely
What you need to bring
- Education: Associate degree (drafting technology or a related field)
- Experience: At least 2 years working in residential drafting or a comparable design role
- A portfolio that shows real residential plans and layouts, not just coursework
- Solid working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar drafting software
- Familiarity with local and national residential building codes
- Comfort translating a vague idea into a precise, buildable drawing without losing the details along the way
