What the Work Looks Like
Most days you're bouncing between messy datasets and the people waiting on answers from them. Some of that's building predictive models. Some of it's keeping pipelines running so data doesn't quietly break somewhere upstream. And a good chunk is just translation — turning something technically correct into something a non-technical stakeholder can actually use to make a decision.
Responsibilities
Analysis and Insight
- Dig into complex datasets to surface trends worth acting on.
- Work directly with stakeholders to understand what they actually need from the data, not just what they initially asked for.
Modeling
- Build and refine predictive models using Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
- Apply optimization techniques that keep models both accurate and scalable.
Pipelines and Data Integrity
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines that keep data flowing reliably across platforms.
- Catch data quality issues before they turn into bad decisions downstream.
Cross-Team Work
- Partner with data scientists, engineers, and business teams to keep data strategy aligned with actual goals.
- Translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders without sacrificing accuracy.
Visualization and Reporting
- Build visualizations using Matplotlib, Seaborn, and Tableau that make insights land.
- Customize dashboards for different audiences instead of shipping the same report to everyone.
What You'll Need
Education: A four-year degree in a related field is the baseline expectation for this role.
Experience: At least 3 years working as a data analyst, with Python at the center of that work the whole time.
You should be genuinely comfortable in Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and Scikit-learn — not just able to name them in an interview. SQL needs to be solid too, since you'll be pulling from large datasets regularly, and some hands-on time with a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, whichever) matters more than people expect. Beyond the technical list, what actually separates good analysts from great ones is the ability to sit with a messy problem and explain the fix in plain language afterward.
