Remote Payroll Technician

Location: Remote Annual Salary: $52,073 Position Overview: We seek a meticulous and organized Remote Payroll Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll processes and compliance requirements and excellent analytical and communication skills. This role involves managing end-to-end employee payroll processing across various locations, ensuring accurate and timely wage payments. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Payroll Processing:
    • Administer and process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for a diverse workforce.
    • Verify and input employee timekeeping data, including hours worked, overtime, and leave.
    • Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments.
    • Prepare and distribute paychecks and direct deposit statements to employees.
    • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing by adhering to payroll schedules and deadlines.
  2. Data Management:
    • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including personal information, pay rates, and tax withholding details.
    • Review and reconcile payroll reports to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
    • Generate and analyze payroll reports for management review, including reports on wages, deductions, and taxes.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
  3. Compliance and Record-Keeping:
    • Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and labor laws to ensure compliance.
    • Prepare and file required payroll tax documents and reports, including W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly tax filings.
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information and adhere to data protection regulations.
    • Conduct regular audits of payroll processes to identify and rectify discrepancies or compliance issues.
  4. Employee Support:
    • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters, including paychecks, deductions, and tax withholdings.
    • Assist with resolving payroll-related issues and discrepancies.
    • Assist with the onboarding process for new hires, including setting up payroll accounts and verifying documentation.
    • Educate employees on payroll policies and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance.
  5. System Management:
    • Utilize payroll software and systems to process payroll and generate reports.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to payroll processing.
    • Collaborate with IT and software vendors to enhance payroll system functionality and performance.
    • Implement best practices for payroll data entry and system usage to increase efficiency.
  6. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with Human Resources and Finance teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
    • Collaborate with other departments to resolve payroll-related issues and improve processes.
    • Communicate effectively with employees and management regarding payroll updates, changes, and policies.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a related field. Experience with payroll software and systems is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and tax laws.
    • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
    • Practical communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
