Most people never read the copy on a box. They react to it before they've processed a single word — the shape, the color, the weight of it in their hand. That reaction is the job. We're hiring a
Remote Packaging Designer to shape our first impression, working fully remotely from wherever you're based.
Role Overview
This is a full-time remote position paying
$92,500 per year, open to candidates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, India, and several other countries. You'll work across product categories, taking packaging from a rough concept through to a file a printer can actually run.
Core Responsibilities
The work constantly moves between creative and technical. One day you're sketching concepts, the next you're checking a dieline against print specs.
- Develop packaging concepts and see them through to finished, production-ready execution.
- Keep design decisions aligned with brand identity and with how a product is positioned relative to competitors.
- Build packaging that works functionally, keeps costs reasonable, and doesn't disregard environmental impact.
- Coordinate with marketing, copywriting, and project management across different time zones.
- Produce dielines, mockups, and final files that meet industry production standards.
- Confirm that packaging meets legal and regulatory requirements in each market it ships to.
- Run prototypes through testing and act on feedback from internal review and customer input.
- Track shifts in packaging trends, materials, and sustainability practices as they develop.
Experience and Education
This role requires a
Bachelor's degree at minimum and at least
3 years of experience in packaging or graphic design. Prior remote work experience is helpful but not required if your portfolio makes the case for you.
What We're Evaluating
Your portfolio carries more weight than your resume here — we want proof that you can take a concept from idea to finished production, not just a strong mood board. Beyond that, we're looking for solid knowledge of materials and printing processes, some understanding of how accessibility factors into packaging design, and the discipline to work independently without losing sync with a distributed team.
Skills That Set Strong Candidates Apart
- Experience designing within regulated product categories where packaging has legal constraints.
- A genuine interest in sustainable materials, not just familiarity with the term.
- Comfort mentoring or being mentored — this team leans on both.
- Tight organizational habits, since production files don't forgive loose version control.
Tools of the Trade
- Adobe Creative Cloud, primarily Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Figma, along with whiteboarding tools for early-stage concept work.
- 3D modeling software such as Esko Studio or Cinema 4D for realistic mockups.
- Slack and Notion to keep a distributed team coordinated day-to-day.
- Cloud file storage with proper version control, given how many hands touch a single production file.
Team and Culture
Distance doesn't mean isolation on this team. Expect regular design sprints, informal virtual coffee chats, and a habit of calling out good work — quietly good work included, not just the big launches. If this listing reached you through
Naukri Mitra, know that collaboration here isn't a slogan; distributed teams only function when people actually stay in touch, and that's how this one runs.
Hours are flexible and generally based on your time zone rather than a fixed schedule dictated by a central office.
Benefits
- Flexible working hours that respect your time zone rather than forcing a fixed schedule.
- A dedicated budget for professional development — courses, software, or conferences.
- Mental wellness days built into the calendar, plus access to support resources when needed.
- Quarterly creative showcases where your work gets visibility beyond your immediate team.
Where This Can Lead
There's a clear path toward senior design, art direction, or sustainability-focused roles for people who want to move in that direction. It's not automatic, but the internal pathways exist, and people do use them.
Apply
Send your portfolio along with a short note on how you'd approach a packaging problem for us specifically. We're more interested in how you think through a design challenge than in a polished cover letter. If it's a fit, you'll hear back directly.
