Remote Lead Medical Transcriptionist

📍 Anywhere 🏷️ Hospitals & Medical Services 💰 $55,121 / year
A surgical report shows up half-garbled — rushed dictation, medical shorthand, a doctor talking too fast into a phone between cases. Someone has to turn that into a clean record. Someone else has to make sure it comes out right every single time. That second part is you.

The Role

We need a Remote Lead Medical Transcriptionist to lead a small team of transcriptionists while still handling the more complex documents yourself. Workload, quality checks, training — all of it sits with you, plus you're the one clients call when something needs sorting out. Pay is $55,121 a year, fully remote.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Manage a team's schedule and workload so nothing sits in the queue too long
  • Edit transcriptions for accuracy and formatting before they go out the door
  • Call physicians directly when a dictation is unclear instead of guessing
  • Take on the tougher stuff yourself — surgical notes, specialist reports, dense case histories
  • Keep everything HIPAA-compliant, no exceptions
  • Watch team accuracy and turnaround numbers, and step in when someone's slipping
  • Field client concerns and actually fix what's causing them

What Gets You Hired

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years transcribing medical records, with 1-2 of those years leading or supervising others
  • Deep enough medical terminology knowledge to catch an error before it becomes a client's problem
  • Working understanding of HIPAA and what confidentiality actually requires day to day
  • Some real experience managing people — not just doing the work well yourself

Bonus Points

  • CMT or RMT certification
  • Specialty transcription background — cardiology, orthopedics, radiology
  • Some exposure to medical coding and billing
  • Comfortable with voice recognition tools, not just typing from scratch

Why Leading This Team Is Harder Than It Sounds

Transcribing accurately is one skill. Noticing that three different people on your team keep tripping over the same terminology, or knowing which client complaint points to a real process problem versus a one-off — that's a different skill entirely. Naukri Mitra hears from organizations that specifically want someone who makes the whole team sharper, not just someone who's personally good at the work.

Pay and What's Included

Beyond the $55,121 salary:
  • Fully remote, flexible hours
  • Performance bonuses on top of base pay
  • Real training investment, not a one-time onboarding video
  • A team that treats your experience as something to build on

What It Looks Like When It's Going Well

  • Turnaround times hold up even in a rough week
  • Clients bring problems straight to you and trust you'll actually fix them
  • Newer transcriptionists on your team get visibly better within a few months
  • The hardest cases land on your desk because people know you'll get them right

Applying

Send your resume and a cover letter that actually talks about your supervisory experience — what leading a team looked like day to day, not just how many years you've logged. If you're a fit, expect a document review exercise, then an interview centered on how you've handled a real quality or performance issue before. This is a fully remote position open to qualified applicants.
