The Shape of the Role
You'd be the primary legal point of contact for a company that's still developing its own processes. Fewer fixed playbooks, more judgment calls. Leadership won't just want you to flag a risk — they'll want to know what it means for the business, in plain terms.
Where Your Time Goes
Contracts take up a good chunk of it. You'll draft and negotiate vendor agreements, NDAs, licensing deals, and partnership terms, plus review employment documents as the team grows. HR will bring you into hiring questions, remote work policy, and the occasional internal dispute. Laws vary by jurisdiction, so part of the job is monitoring changes and updating policy before a gap becomes a real problem. Trademark and copyright work falls under you too, along with confidentiality practices that protect data without slowing anyone down. When something's outside your wheelhouse — a dispute, a specialized matter — you bring in outside counsel rather than trying to force it internally.
What You'll Need

Doctoral degree (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school is the baseline education requirement here, along with active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
In terms of experience, we're looking for someone who's put in 5 years or more practicing law, with real time spent on an in-house or corporate legal team — not just outside counsel work.

- Comfortable negotiating deals and writing contracts people can actually read
- No trouble operating inside remote, async-heavy legal tools
None of the following is required, but each one helps: experience in SaaS, fintech, or other fast-moving tech sectors; exposure to regulatory frameworks outside the U.S.; time at a mission-driven organization; fluency in more than one language.
How the Team Works
Legal isn't off in a corner here. You'll get pulled into product conversations, HR decisions, vendor talks — regularly, not occasionally. The team spans several time zones, so a lot happens async, and people are expected to follow through without constant check-ins. This posting shows up in a few places, Naukri Mitra among them, but everyone who applies goes through the same review regardless of where they found it. New hires get a real onboarding, and mentorship doesn't stop after the first week.
Tools You'll Use
Document management built for remote teams. Secure channels for real-time back-and-forth. E-signature and contract lifecycle platforms. Compliance tracking software that keeps every policy update on record. None of it is there for show — it's there so the work doesn't get slowed down by the tools themselves.
Pay and Benefits
The role pays

Where It Can Lead
