Remote E-commerce Designer: Shape Online Stores That Truly Work
Let’s Build Better Online Shopping Experiences
You know that feeling when a site clicks? Everything flows. The design pulls you in. The buttons
feel right. That’s what we’re after. And if you're someone who gets why e-commerce design is more than just pretty layouts—we should talk.
We’re building digital stores that do more than look good. They convert. They tell stories. They make people trust what they see. And we’re doing it all remotely, together, from different corners of the world.
What You’ll Actually Do Here
Honestly? You’ll wear a few hats. But the main one is this: you’ll design e-commerce sites that make people want to click
buy now.
You’ll work with smart folks—marketers, developers, writers, and founders. Sometimes you’ll start with a blank page. Sometimes there’ll be a rough idea. Either way, you’ll take it and run.
Let’s break it down:
- Design full e-commerce websites (mostly Shopify, sometimes WooCommerce)
- Create mobile-first, conversion-friendly layouts
- Build custom landing pages for promos, launches, or special offers
- Work with devs to bring your designs to life (and make sure they still look right)
- Use data to tweak and improve what you’ve built
What a Typical Day Could Look Like
Wake up. Grab coffee. Fire up Figma. Your day might start with reviewing user heatmaps from a product page that underperformed last week. You’ll meet with Jake from Growth for a quick sync. He’ll mention how scroll depth dropped off on the checkout page.
Boom—you’ve got a redesign idea already.
After lunch, you jump into designing a new homepage for a sustainable skincare brand. They’re all about calm, clean design. You draft three mobile-first wireframes, get feedback from Lily (she
loves white space), and push your top version to the dev team.
Before signing off, you drop a few notes in Slack, share a Loom walk-through, and scroll through some moodboards for tomorrow's project.
Here’s What Makes You a Great Fit
You’ve probably done this before. Maybe at an agency. Maybe freelance. Maybe in-house. Doesn’t matter. What matters is:
- You’ve designed high-converting e-commerce sites before
- You know how to make mobile layouts shine
- You’re confident in Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch (we use Figma mostly)
- You can spot bad UX a mile away
- You speak up when something doesn’t make sense—and you explain it clearly
And look, remote work isn’t always a breeze. But you’re the type who:
- Overcommunicates (in a good way)
- Can handle independent projects without being micromanaged
- Actually enjoys getting feedback
A Bit About Our Style
We like clean design. Clear messages. Clever use of color, spacing, and hierarchy. We’re not here for clutter or trends that fade in a week.
The brands we work with are real people selling real things: organic dog treats, custom furniture, and handmade jewelry. No fluff.
So we design like it matters. Because it
does.
Tools We Use (And You Probably Do Too)
- Figma (our main workspace)
- Shopify (the go-to for most builds)
- Slack (for all the little convos)
- Notion (to keep projects clean and track ideas)
- Hotjar & Google Analytics (so we’re not guessing what users think)
- Loom (for quick feedback and walkthroughs)
Real Wins From Our Team
Last month, Sam redesigned a product detail page for a meal-prep company. After testing two versions, conversions jumped by 19% in a week. Small change, significant result.
Or when Ana built a full holiday promo microsite for a client in under 10 days. The bounce rate dropped like a rock, and the campaign pulled in 4x the usual revenue.
These aren’t unicorn stories. They’re just what happens when design meets intent.
Challenges? Sure. But We’re Built for That
Let’s be real. Not every client has perfect brand assets. Sometimes you’ll get vague feedback. Remote work can feel a bit... quiet.
But here’s how we handle it:
- We have weekly team huddles (no pressure, just connection)
- We use clear briefs so you’re not guessing
- We encourage open chats when things feel stuck
- And we never expect perfection the first time
Design is a process. You won’t be alone in it.
Who You’ll Work With
We’re a tight-knit, fully remote team. Designers, marketers, devs, brand strategists. Different backgrounds, different styles—but same goal: build e-commerce experiences that
work.
Expect honest feedback, quick turnarounds, and a lot of Slack banter. You’ll get to know folks like:
- Carlos, our dev wizard who turns designs into clean code
- Maya, who lives for brand guidelines and typography perfection
- Drew, our creative lead, who always asks, “But why should someone care about this page?”
What Success Looks Like
- Pages you design convert better
- Clients ask for you on their next project
- Other designers share your work in team chats
- You get faster and sharper with every round
Success here isn’t about hitting some magic number. It’s about impact. Clarity. And sites that make people feel good about making a purchase.

- Annual salary: $86,186
- Full-time
