Remote Cover Letter Writer

📍 Anywhere 🏷️ Work From Home 💰 $57,519 / year

Writing the One Document Job Seekers Actually Stress Over

Resumes get skimmed. Cover letters get read — or at least, the good ones do. Naukri Mitra is looking for a Remote Cover Letter Writer who can take someone's scattered work history and turn it into three or four paragraphs a hiring manager actually finishes. If you've ever helped a friend rewrite their cover letter and watched them get a callback afterward, you already know the feeling this job runs on. Location doesn't matter here. What matters is whether you can hear someone's career story in a fifteen-minute intake call and turn it into something that sounds like them, not like a template.

Day to Day

  • Interview or review intake forms from clients to understand their background, target role, and industry
  • Draft custom cover letters for roles ranging from entry-level positions to senior leadership
  • Adjust tone and structure based on industry — a finance letter reads differently than a design one
  • Research target companies and job postings to pull in relevant keywords and context
  • Revise drafts based on client feedback, sometimes through two or three rounds
  • Keep track of deadlines across multiple clients at different stages of their job search
  • Flag cases where a client's resume and cover letter don't line up, so the two documents tell a consistent story

Qualifications

You'll need at least 1 year of professional writing experience — resume writing, career coaching support, journalism, marketing copy, or something adjacent all count. A Bachelor's degree is the baseline education requirement, though a proven writing background matters more to us than the subject on your diploma. Beyond that, we're looking for:
  • Strong command of English grammar and tone, with the ability to write formally without sounding stiff
  • Comfort working across unfamiliar industries — you won't always get a client whose field you know well
  • Good listening skills for intake calls, since half the job is extracting the right details from someone who isn't a writer themselves
  • Ability to manage 5–10 active client files at once without letters slipping through the cracks
  • Basic research skills to look up a target company or role before writing

Bonus Points

  • Background in HR, recruitment, or career coaching
  • Experience writing for niche industries — healthcare, tech, legal, or finance in particular
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking systems and how they affect resume-cover letter pairing
  • A prior portfolio of writing samples across different tones and formats

Compensation

This role pays $57,519 annually. Naukri Mitra also offers:
  • Fully remote work with no fixed office hours, as long as deadlines are met
  • Paid time off, including personal and sick leave
  • Health insurance contribution for eligible employees
  • A quarterly bonus tied to client satisfaction scores
  • Access to a small stipend for professional writing courses or certifications

What the Team Feels Like

You won't be writing in isolation. There's a small internal group of writers who trade notes on tricky clients, share templates for industries nobody's tackled before, and occasionally argue about whether a semicolon belongs in a cover letter (it usually doesn't). Feedback loops are quick, and nobody sits on a draft for a week before responding. As the team grows, there's room to specialize — some writers here have leaned into executive-level letters, others into career-change narratives, and that specialization tends to come with more autonomy over time.

How to Apply

Submit a resume along with two writing samples — ideally one formal cover letter (yours or a past client's, anonymized) and one piece that shows a different register, so we can see your range. A short note on why this kind of writing interests you is optional but appreciated. We read every application personally, and you can expect to hear back within roughly two weeks of submitting. If you're the person who gets asked to "just fix this paragraph" more often than you'd like to admit, this might be the job that finally pays you for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

You take whatever a client hands over in intake — sometimes a messy resume, sometimes just a phone call — and shape it into a cover letter that sounds like them, tailored to the role and industry they're applying to. Revisions happen until it's right, not until a fixed round count runs out.
Not exactly. At least a year of professional writing counts, whether that's resumes, journalism, marketing copy, or career coaching. What matters more is whether you can write formally without sounding stiff.
A bachelor's degree is the floor, but honestly, we care far more about your writing samples than what the degree says on it.
$57,519 a year, plus PTO, a health insurance contribution, and a quarterly bonus based on how satisfied clients are with their letters.
Pretty much — there's no fixed office schedule. As long as client deadlines get met, when and where you work is up to you.
