We're hiring a
Proofreader for a remote position, with both part-time and full-time options depending on how much of your week you want to give to it.
What the Work Involves
Content comes in all shapes — academic papers one day, marketing copy the next, maybe a technical manual after that. Your job is to catch what the writer missed: grammar slips, awkward phrasing, inconsistent style, factual inconsistencies that slipped past a first draft. It's detail work, plain and simple, and it rewards people who genuinely notice things others skim past.
- Reviewing documents for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors
- Checking consistency in tone, style, and formatting against a given style guide
- Flagging factual or logical inconsistencies, not just surface-level typos
- Turning around edits within agreed deadlines, even on tighter jobs
- Communicating clearly with writers or editors about suggested changes
- Working across different content types without needing separate training for each
What You'll Need
- Excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and English usage
- Some prior proofreading or editing experience, whether freelance or in-house
- Familiarity with common style guides — APA, Chicago, or similar
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own turnaround times
- An eye that catches inconsistency without needing it pointed out first
- Basic comfort with tools like Google Docs or Microsoft Word track changes
Nice to Have
- Experience proofreading academic or technical content specifically
- Familiarity with SEO-friendly writing conventions
- A background in editing rather than just proofreading, if you enjoy going deeper than surface fixes
- Experience working across multiple clients or projects at once
