Online Training Program Designer who gets that distinction — someone who designs courses people actually finish, retain, and put to use afterward.
This role suits someone who treats instructional design as an actual craft, not a routine of dragging slides and quizzes into a template.
How the work breaks down
You'll build online training programs from scratch — courses, modules, and the supporting materials that go with them — all tied to real learning objectives rather than content produced for its own sake. Where a framework like ADDIE or Bloom's Taxonomy genuinely sharpens the design, you'll use it. Where it just adds steps without adding value, you'll skip it and go with whatever gets learners to the outcome faster.
Expect to work regularly with video, animation, and interactive elements. Static slide decks won't cut it here.
What the role involves
- Design full training programs, including courses, modules, and supporting materials
- Apply instructional design models and methodologies to fit each program's goals
- Build multimedia content — video, animation, interactive activities — to strengthen learning outcomes
- Work with stakeholders to identify training needs before building anything
- Research emerging trends and technologies in eLearning and apply what's actually useful
- Manage multiple training design projects at once, keeping each on schedule
- Coordinate with subject matter experts to validate content accuracy
- Test training materials across devices and platforms before launch
- Evaluate program effectiveness through assessments and learner feedback
- Revise and improve content based on real performance data, not assumptions
- Collaborate with designers and developers to keep materials cohesive and visually solid
- Facilitate occasional training sessions or webinars to support new program rollouts
What you'll need
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (minimum requirement).
Experience:
3 years minimum in instructional design, eLearning development, or a closely related role.
- Working proficiency in eLearning authoring tools like Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate
- Solid grasp of adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
- Experience with Learning Management Systems, plus familiarity with SCORM and xAPI standards
- Clear, engaging writing — training content lives or dies on how it's worded
- Strong project management skills to handle several builds at once without missing deadlines
- Creative problem-solving instincts paired with genuine attention to detail
Nice to have
- A certification in instructional design or eLearning development
- Experience with gamification or other interactive learning techniques
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar graphic design tools
- A Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field
Compensation and benefits
This role pays an annual salary of $92,000. On top of that:
