Somewhere between a resume hitting the system and a recruiter picking up the phone, someone has to actually read the thing. That's this job. It sounds simple until you're three hundred applications deep and still catching the details that separate a strong candidate from one who just used the right keywords.
What this job really involves
You'll be the person standing between raw applications and the recruitment team's shortlist. Every resume, cover letter, and application form that comes through gets your eyes on it — checked against role requirements, scored for fit, and either moved forward or set aside with a clear reason why. It's
remote work, but it's not passive work. Recruiters downstream are trusting your read to be accurate.
Day-to-day duties
- Read through incoming applications and match qualifications against the specific role's requirements
- Score and rank candidates using the evaluation criteria and tools provided to you
- Flag top applicants for the recruitment team and note why they stand out
- Keep evaluation notes consistent so two reviewers looking at the same file would reach a similar conclusion
- Spot gaps, inconsistencies, or red flags in an application and document them clearly
- Send feedback to recruiters on borderline cases where a second opinion would help
- Track patterns across applications — which roles are getting weak candidate pools, where requirements might be filtering out good people unnecessarily
- Put together periodic summaries on application volume, candidate quality, and anything worth flagging to management
Qualifications
A
Bachelor's degree is the minimum education requirement for this role. Beyond that, we're looking for at least
1 year of experience in a role involving application review, recruitment coordination, HR screening, or a related function where judgment calls on candidate quality were part of the job.
A few things matter more than years on paper, though:
- You catch details other people skim past — a mismatched date, an inflated title, a skill listed without any supporting evidence
- You can explain your reasoning on a candidate in a sentence or two, not a paragraph
- You manage your own time well enough that a stack of forty applications doesn't turn into a three-day backlog
- You write clearly enough that a recruiter can act on your notes without asking follow-up questions
- You're comfortable working alone for long stretches, since this role doesn't involve much real-time collaboration
Also useful, though not mandatory
- Prior experience in HR, recruiting, or talent acquisition
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems or resume screening software
- Exposure to hiring across multiple industries, which helps when evaluating unfamiliar job titles or skill sets
Compensation
The role pays
$95,500 annually. It's structured as a full-time remote position, so the schedule stays consistent rather than shifting week to week.
Why people stay in this role
A few reasons candidates tend to bring up once they're a few months in:
- Full remote flexibility, with the equipment and systems support needed to actually work efficiently from home
- Generous paid time off, plus separate leave options for personal or family situations
- Structured paths into recruiting, HR operations, or talent management roles for anyone who wants to move up
- Funded training and access to professional development resources tied directly to career growth
- Health and wellness support, including mental health resources — reviewing applications at volume is more mentally taxing than it looks from the outside
How the team operates
Reviewers here don't work in isolation, even though the day-to-day is mostly solo. There's a standing channel with the recruitment team for flagging tricky cases, and feedback runs both directions — if a role's requirements are filtering out strong candidates, that gets raised and adjusted rather than ignored. Naukri Mitra has placed reviewers into similar screening-focused roles before, and one thing that consistently comes up is how much clearer this process feels compared to typical high-volume hiring pipelines. The team leans toward being direct: if your evaluations are off, you'll hear about it early, not after six months of drift.
We're building out a hiring function that scales across a growing, global remote team, and the volume of applications only goes up from here. That means your evaluations carry real weight — a missed strong candidate or a wrongly advanced weak one both cost the business something.
Applying
Send your resume along with a short note on how you'd approach evaluating a stack of applications for a role you're unfamiliar with — that's often the real test of this job. Candidates from the U.S., Canada, the UK, EU countries, Australia, India, and elsewhere are all welcome to apply, provided you're able to work remotely and meet the experience requirement above. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
