What This Job Actually Is
You'll own a portfolio of supplier relationships from the first RFP through contract renewal, years later. This isn't a support role tucked under someone else's title. You set the sourcing strategy for your category, make the call on which vendors to move forward with, and carry the relationship once the ink is dry. The position pays
$120,000 a year, sits fully remote, and reports to senior leadership — with enough latitude that how you organize your week is largely up to you.
Where Your Time Actually Goes
The job doesn't repeat itself week to week, but a few threads run through almost everything:
Setting sourcing direction
- Putting together category plans that weigh cost against quality against how fast something needs to arrive
- Watching market and demand signals closely enough to catch an opportunity before it's obvious to everyone else
- Running the qualification process — RFPs, RFQs, audits — on any new supplier before they touch our supply chain
Managing the people on the other side of the contract
- Sitting across the table (virtually) and negotiating price, terms, and service levels directly
- Keeping your best suppliers close enough that reliability doesn't quietly slip over time
- Catching supplier issues while they're still small, before they turn into a missed shipment
Working across the company, not just with vendors
- Sitting down with Product, Quality, and Operations to understand what they actually need from a supplier, not just what they say they need
- Pulling in Legal and Finance early enough that contract terms don't blow up later
- Acting as the translator when suppliers and internal teams are talking past each other
Staying ahead of risk
- Tracking supplier KPIs closely enough to notice a slide before it becomes a pattern
- Building a real contingency plan for anything single-sourced or otherwise risky
- Writing sourcing updates for leadership — what worked, what's at risk, where the money is
- Confirming, not assuming, that suppliers are meeting ethical and sustainability standards
What We Need You to Bring
We care far more about whether you can run this function starting week one than about a perfectly polished resume. Still, there's a floor:
- Education: Bachelor's degree, minimum
- Experience: At least 5 years in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain — remote or globally distributed team experience is a plus, not a requirement
- A history of negotiating contracts and then actually managing what happens after signature
- Comfort pulling insight out of procurement data rather than just reporting numbers someone else calculated
- Working knowledge of international trade rules, customs, and cross-border logistics
- The ability to talk to a warehouse lead and an executive in the same afternoon and be equally clear with both
- Basic fluency with sourcing platforms and standard Office tools
Not Required, But It Helps
- A CPSM or CSCP certification
- A master's degree in a supply chain or business field
- Sourcing experience spanning multiple continents or currencies at once
- Familiarity with sustainability or ethical-sourcing audit frameworks
- A past project where you led a cost-reduction or supplier-consolidation effort
