Chemical engineering doesn't have to mean standing at a bench eight hours a day. This role is built entirely around remote work — modeling, simulation, and process design carried out from wherever you do your best thinking, contributing to real environmental impact along the way. It's a full-time position paying $109,870 annually.
The Scope of the Role
You'd be engineering and refining chemical processes with an eye toward efficiency, safety, and reduced environmental footprint — work that spans everything from early-stage research into greener methodologies to hands-on process optimization for existing systems. Cross-functional collaboration is baked into the job; very little of this happens in isolation.
Core Responsibilities
Process Work
- Design, simulate, and improve chemical systems to boost performance while cutting waste and resource use.
- Partner with engineers across disciplines to modernize workflows and develop new process strategies.
- Analyze production trends to support safer, cleaner, and more consistent outputs.
Research and Development
- Explore emerging approaches in sustainable process engineering and green chemistry.
- Contribute to formulating and testing new materials for pharmaceutical, energy, and manufacturing applications.
- Identify alternative resources and inputs that reduce operational impact without sacrificing performance.
Compliance and Quality
- Keep every process workflow aligned with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Support quality audits, validations, and ongoing improvement efforts.
- Build testing protocols that meet international certification standards.
Technical Leadership
- Bring chemical process expertise into cross-functional projects as needed.
- Help less experienced engineers grow, whether that's through direct coaching or just being available when they hit a wall.
- Present findings and proposals in terms both engineers and non-technical stakeholders can follow.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related technical field (minimum requirement). A Master's degree or Doctoral degree is preferred, though not required.
Experience: At least 3 years in chemical process engineering, ideally including time on remote or hybrid teams.
- Ability to design scalable systems and run feasibility assessments with confidence.
- Strong grasp of reaction engineering, thermodynamic modeling, and process control.
- Working knowledge of global safety standards, including OSHA, EPA, and REACH protocols.
- Comfort with Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD, and computational tools like Python or MATLAB.
Skills That Set Candidates Apart
- Background in circular chemistry, waste minimization, or eco-conscious process design.
- Ease with digital collaboration tools and data visualization platforms.
- Ability to turn dense technical data into strategy that non-engineers can act on.
- Clear technical writing and a track record of methodical troubleshooting.
Your Toolkit
You'd work with a modern remote engineering stack — Aspen Plus and CHEMCAD for simulation, Python and MATLAB for computational modeling, cloud-hosted LIMS and ELNs for data recording, plus real-time collaboration tools that make distributed teamwork actually functional. Naukri Mitra places engineers with organizations that keep this toolkit current rather than letting it stagnate, so ongoing platform upgrades are part of the deal, not an afterthought.
Compensation and Growth
- $109,870 annual salary.
- Fully remote flexibility with no location constraints.
- Sponsored certifications and structured peer mentoring to build your technical range.
- Direct exposure to scientists, engineers, and sustainability specialists across the industry.
- Genuine influence over projects tied to long-term environmental and manufacturing goals.
The Environment You'd Be Working In
This is a team that treats remote work as a serious operating model, not a workaround — expect a culture built on transparency, experimentation, and results rather than face time. Diverse technical perspectives are actively sought, and contributions are evaluated on substance, not visibility.
How to Apply
Submit your resume with your chemical process engineering background clearly outlined — remote or hybrid team experience is worth calling out specifically, along with any exposure to sustainable or green chemistry initiatives. Candidates who can speak to a specific process improvement they've driven tend to stand out.
Candidates from around the world are welcome to apply for this remote position, with the USA and India among the currently eligible countries. Check the full list of approved hiring regions to confirm your location qualifies.
