Remote Bookkeeper Jobs In USA

📍 Anywhere 🏷️ Finance & Accounting 💰 $58,500 / year
Somebody's got to make sure the books actually balance. Not "close enough" — actually balance. That's the job. We're hiring a Remote Bookkeeper in the USA, and it's fully remote, full-time, and paying $58,500 a year.

What This Job Really Is

Forget the idea of bookkeeping as background noise. You're the person who catches a miscoded transaction before it turns into a bad decision three months later. You'll manage ledgers, reconcile accounts, and keep financial records clean enough that leadership can trust them without double-checking your work. That trust gets built fast, or it doesn't get built at all.

Where Your Time Goes

  • Keep general ledger entries accurate and current for every transaction that comes through
  • Sort income and expenses correctly so the numbers reflect what's actually happening, not what happened three weeks ago
  • Reconcile transactions and stay on top of both what's owed and what's coming in
  • Help pull together financial reports each month, each quarter, and at year-end
  • Jump into Zoom calls or Basecamp threads to sort out discrepancies before they snowball
  • Watch budget spend against plan and flag anything drifting off course
  • Stay inside accounting standards and internal controls — no gray areas here

The Non-Negotiables

Three years, minimum, of hands-on bookkeeping in a professional setting — that's the bar. A high school diploma or equivalent meets the education requirement; formal coursework in finance or accounting helps your application, but it won't make or break it if your experience holds up.
  • You've actually worked inside QuickBooks Online, Xero, or something similar — not just heard of it
  • Bookkeeping fundamentals and compliance basics are second nature by now
  • You notice small errors before they become expensive ones
  • You can manage your own workload without someone checking in constantly
  • Excel or Google Sheets doesn't intimidate you — you use them to actually analyze, not just enter data

Nice-to-Haves

  • You've set up or worked with automated bank feed reconciliation before
  • You've supported a CPA firm or an in-house finance team remotely
  • Juggling more than one client or business unit at a time doesn't throw you off
  • You're used to fully digital, paperless bookkeeping workflows

Software You'll Live In

Most days, you're moving between QuickBooks Online or Xero, spreadsheets in Excel or Google Sheets for deeper analysis, and team chatter across Zoom, Basecamp, and Notion. Bank feeds and reconciliation automation take care of the grunt work, freeing you to focus on the parts that actually need a human brain — judgment calls, anomalies, and cleanup.

The Remote Setup, Honestly

You control your schedule. Nobody's tracking whether you logged in at 9:00 sharp — they're tracking whether the reports went out clean and on time. Meetings happen when there's something to discuss, not on autopilot. Roles posted this way, including through Naukri Mitra, usually pull in people who've had one too many "remote" jobs that were remote in name only. This one isn't that.

What You Walk Away With

  • Work from anywhere in the USA — no office, no commute, ever
  • Holidays observed, plus paid time off you're actually meant to use
  • Equipment or a stipend to cover your home setup
  • Genuine control over your daily schedule, not just flexible hours on paper
  • Money and support toward certifications or continued learning
  • A culture that leans toward openness instead of micromanagement

Where It Can Lead

Bookkeeping is a starting point here, not a dead end. As the business grows, so do the openings above you — Remote Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst, Controller. Along the way, you'll pick up forecasting and financial planning skills that matter far beyond this specific title.

Who Tends to Succeed Here

Honestly? People who like spreadsheets. Not tolerate — like. If leaving a discrepancy unresolved bugs you more than the extra fifteen minutes it takes to fix it, you'll probably do well in this role.

How to Apply

Send your resume with a short note on your bookkeeping background: which tools you've used, what industries you've worked in, what kind of setup suits you best. We're open to candidates from the USA, Canada, the UK, the European Union, Australia, India, and other regions, as long as your schedule can overlap with US business hours. Applications go through on a rolling basis.
