Key Responsibilities
Build and Maintain Accessible Web Interfaces
- Implement semantic HTML and WAI-ARIA attributes to enhance usability.
- Follow WCAG 2.1 AA (and emerging 2.2) standards to ensure compliance.
- Apply responsive design principles that account for screen readers, keyboard access, and touch navigation.
Conduct Accessibility Audits and Remediation
- Regularly perform manual and automated audits using tools like Axe, WAVE, and Lighthouse.
- Document accessibility issues and coordinate fixes across development teams.
- Facilitate hands-on feedback sessions with real users of assistive technology to validate enhancements.
Advocate for Accessibility Across Teams
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers to embed inclusive practices in wireframes and mockups.
- Partner with developers to ensure accessibility is considered throughout the project lifecycle, from project kickoff to deployment.
- Lead internal accessibility training, creating educational content, and promoting best practices.
Document and Scale Inclusive Standards
- Develop internal documentation to standardize accessible development workflows.
- Create reusable components and design system modules with accessibility built in.
- Engage in collaborative review cycles with peers to ensure code quality, accessibility, and maintainability.
