Description
Remote Python Game Developer
Shape Gameplay That Sparks Emotion and Fuels Curiosity
Can Python shape play like a sculptor molds clay? We believe it can—and if you’re someone who blends analytical thinking with creativity, you’re exactly who we’re excited to build with. This remote Python game development role isn’t just about scripting animations or solving technical blockers. It’s about constructing dynamic systems that keep players engaged from the very first interaction. Your work will directly define how players experience, explore, and emotionally connect with immersive digital worlds.
What You’ll Make Possible
Your code won’t live in isolation—it will serve as the foundation for meaningful player experiences. From procedurally generated environments and non-linear story triggers to enemy AI and real-time physics reactions, you’ll bring both precision and imagination to every layer of gameplay. By weaving together mechanics with compelling visuals and sound, you’ll help create games that inspire delight, challenge, and lasting memories.
Core Responsibilities
Build and Enhance Game Mechanics
- Design and implement scalable game systems, including health, inventory, AI logic, and environmental triggers.
- Translate ideas from game designers and storyboards into tangible, interactive systems using Python.
- Shape moment-to-moment gameplay by refining controls, player interactions, and feedback loops.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Work with level designers and narrative writers to align gameplay with story arcs and world-building.
- Sync with 2D/3D artists to ensure smooth asset integration and rendering across platforms.
- Coordinate with backend developers to implement multiplayer features like lobby systems, real-time syncing, and player stats.
Iteration and Performance Optimization
- Optimize game logic for consistent performance across platforms, including low-end devices.
- Profile memory usage and frame rates to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Rapidly prototype experimental features and evaluate their impact using in-game telemetry and user testing.
Tools and Technologies
Development Frameworks and Engines
- Pygame, Panda3D, Godot (with Python integration)
- In-house game frameworks and runtime environments
Game Development Infrastructure
- Git and GitHub for version control
- Jira and Notion for agile task management
- Continuous integration systems for build automation and delivery
- Visual collaboration in Miro, Figma, and Discord
Team Culture and Collaboration
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll collaborate with a globally distributed group of engineers, designers, and creatives who treat each project as a shared vision. From early ideation to final polish, we foster a culture where every team member—regardless of title—contributes ideas, feedback, and direction. Together, we innovate, test, and refine until each gameplay experience feels intuitive, memorable, and satisfying.
How You’ll Contribute to the Creative Cycle
- Join early ideation sessions to ensure technical feasibility from the start.
- Participate in weekly sprints that include designers, QA, and support teams.
- Review peer code for clarity, security, and scalability—especially for player-critical systems.
Qualifications
Core Competencies
- Proven experience building and releasing at least one game using Python.
- Deep understanding of gameplay mechanics, real-time systems, and game loop architecture.
- Firm grasp of physics simulation, user input handling, and scene management.
- Ability to explain ideas and problem-solving approaches clearly through async tools.
Tools & Tech Proficiency
- Comfortable using Git, GitHub, Jira, and modern automation tools.
- Familiar with Python game libraries and rendering engines.
- Experience integrating 2D/3D assets, animation states, and UI elements.
Bonus Points For
- Background in multiplayer architecture or socket-based communication.
- Experience building AI systems (e.g., pathfinding, behavioral trees, enemy awareness).
- Familiarity with shader scripting or visual effects.
- Prior contributions to open-source game projects or tools.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll know you’re succeeding when players talk about how “right” the game feels. Whether it’s the timing of a jump, the behavior of a boss encounter, or how intuitive a puzzle system is, your work helps players stay immersed. You’ll be trusted to own systems, improve upon legacy features, and offer innovative solutions that elevate the gameplay experience. Internal metrics, such as retention rates, frame stability, and player feedback, will all reflect your impact.
Remote Work Environment
A Culture That Balances Speed and Stability
Our studio operates on a trust-first model. We avoid micromanagement and empower developers to define their work rhythm. You’ll engage in async standups, milestone-based evaluations, and flexible deep-work blocks. While we move quickly, we never sacrifice depth or thoughtfulness in exchange for speed.
Resources You Can Count On
- Access to fully provisioned test environments and automation tools
- Asset libraries, reusable templates, and modding tools
- Real-time collaboration tools and performance dashboards
Compensation and Benefits
What You’ll Receive
- Annual salary: $121,932 (paid monthly or bi-weekly, based on your location)
- Paid vacation days, public holidays, and mental wellness leave
- Annual budget for learning: courses, books, certifications
- All-remote setup: choose your own gear or request company-provided tools
- Option to attend industry conferences and community meetups virtually or in person
Why This Role Matters
Every line of code you write will empower players to create memories, share stories, and feel joy. This isn’t just a job—it’s a space where you can take creative risks, push your technical boundaries, and be recognized for both your execution and your imagination.
Ready to Build Something Impactful?
If you’re excited by the idea of blending technical mastery with creative freedom—and you believe games should be as emotionally rich as they are fun to play—then we’d love to connect. Let’s make something extraordinary together.
