Remote Genealogy Researcher
Discover the Past, Define the Future
Shape meaningful connections through historical discovery. As a Remote Genealogy Researcher, your curiosity and dedication will guide individuals toward understanding their heritage. This role is more than collecting facts—it’s about reconstructing family narratives and creating bridges to the past. We’re looking for someone passionate about history, meticulous with data, and eager to personalize every journey into ancestry. If you're excited by the idea of working independently while solving real family mysteries, we want to hear from you.
Role Overview
Join a collaborative team focused on bringing history to life. You’ll explore archival material, engage with clients, and present well-researched genealogical profiles. We blend thoughtful storytelling with digital tools to bring clarity and emotion to every family tree. This role invites you to step into a creative and investigative mindset where history, identity, and legacy meet in profound ways.
Key Responsibilities
Historical Research and Documentation
- Locate and verify records, including civil registries, church archives, immigration logs, and census documents.
- Analyze land deeds, naturalization papers, military enlistment records, and obituaries to confirm familial connections.
- Create structured genealogical charts and chronologies that align with global migration and heritage patterns.
Client Engagement and Interpretation
- Conduct initial consultations to identify the scope of the research, the cultural context, and any relevant family questions.
- Provide clients with regular progress updates, including emerging discoveries and any roadblocks that may arise.
- Present findings in a digestible, empathetic format—often incorporating photos, maps, and visual timelines.
Database Navigation and Collaboration
- Utilize a range of platforms, including MyHeritagePro, AncestryPro Tools, and FamilySearch International.
- Access local and national archives, historical newspapers, probate files, and digitized land surveys.
- Collaborate with linguists, local historians, and regional genealogists for non-English and culturally specific research.
Cultural and Regional Storytelling
- Place genealogical findings in the broader socio-historical context: wars, diasporas, migrations, and epidemics.
- Transform dry data into compelling narratives that explore the values, struggles, and traditions of ancestors.
- Honor cultural sensitivities, adapting reports to reflect nuances in language, faith, and community customs.
Remote Work Culture
This fully remote opportunity is designed for professionals who thrive in a flexible, focused environment. While based anywhere in the world, you’ll collaborate virtually with a close-knit team of genealogists, editors, and historical analysts.
