Remote Front-End Performance Engineer
Description
Remote Front-End Performance Engineer
Introduction
Do you believe that faster web performance can shape better user experiences? As a Remote Front-End Performance Engineer, you’ll step into a role that directly enhances how users interact with digital platforms across the globe. This isn’t just about shaving milliseconds off load times—it’s about rethinking the way we build, deliver, and optimize user interfaces for real-world conditions. With an annual salary of $110,412, this remote opportunity lets you work from anywhere while building meaningful digital experiences that scale.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate is a combination of strategist, engineer, and advocate for quality. You’ll be responsible for fine-tuning web interfaces to perform seamlessly under diverse user conditions, ranging from mobile networks in rural areas to ultra-fast corporate environments. By joining our engineering team, you’ll make a direct contribution to how our applications load, respond, and perform. Your insights will inform design decisions, shape infrastructure priorities, and drive long-term product improvements.
What You’ll Do
Optimize Performance from the Ground Up
- Audit and benchmark code performance using real-world scenarios and lab data
- Reduce render-blocking resources and optimize critical rendering paths
- Implement code-splitting and tree-shaking to minimize bundle sizes
- Introduce lazy loading for assets, images, and third-party libraries
- Analyze and fine-tune JavaScript execution, memory usage, and DOM manipulation
Lead Scalable Front-End Development
- Build and maintain reusable components optimized for performance
- Refactor legacy front-end systems to meet modern web standards
- Work closely with the design and product departments to develop lightweight, scalable UI patterns
- Ensure accessibility and responsiveness across device types and resolutions
Collaborate Across Disciplines
- Partner with back-end and DevOps engineers to optimize end-to-end performance
- Help product managers understand technical trade-offs and user performance metrics.
- Guide QA in setting up performance regression tests and baseline expectations.
Monitor, Analyze, and Improve Continuously
- Set up observability tools and dashboards using Lighthouse, WebPageTest, or Calibre.
- Define, track, and report key performance metrics like TTFB, FID, CLS, and LCP.
- Detect performance regressions and release issues early through automated tooling.
- Recommend and implement fixes based on real-user monitoring (RUM) insights
Tools and Technologies
As part of our front-end performance team, you’ll use a mix of modern technologies to solve challenging problems:
- Languages: JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript
- Frameworks: React, Vue, or Angular
- Build Tools: Webpack, Rollup, Vite
- Analysis: Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, SpeedCurve, WebPageTest
- Monitoring: Sentry, New Relic, Datadog, LogRocket
- Delivery: CDN services, HTTP/2/3 optimization, and caching strategies
We prioritize tools that support flexibility, visibility, and long-term maintainability.
Working Environment
This is a location-independent role, allowing you to contribute from wherever you feel the most creative and productive. Whether that’s your home office, a co-working hub, or a quiet place in the mountains—it’s up to you. Our team is distributed globally, and we foster a culture of asynchronous collaboration, where your time zone isn’t a barrier to getting things done.
You’ll find a culture that values thoughtful engineering, empathy in communication, and bold experimentation. Weekly standups, deep-dive tech talks, and quarterly retrospectives ensure you stay aligned and informed, while also giving you room to lead.
Required Experience
We’re looking for individuals who bring more than just technical skills—they bring curiosity, ownership, and a drive for continuous improvement.
- Minimum 3 years in front-end engineering roles with a clear focus on performance
- Demonstrated success improving application speed and stability
- Hands-on experience with performance profiling, auditing tools, and browser internals
- Strong understanding of front-end architecture, modular design, and UI scalability
- Familiar with web standards, including WCAG, responsive design, and device compatibility
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on complex, high-traffic web platforms
- Comfortable using telemetry data to prioritize user pain points
- Clear documentation practices and the ability to mentor junior developers
- Participation in open-source projects, blogs, or talks related to performance
- Understanding of A/B testing, analytics tools, and their impact on UX and performance
Growth and Development
This role is designed with your growth in mind. You’ll have access to:
- A yearly professional development budget for courses, conferences, and certifications
- Internal mentorship programs to support both technical and leadership growth
- Opportunities to influence front-end strategy and performance frameworks
- A platform for innovation where your experiments and ideas are encouraged
Why This Role Matters
