Remote Front End Performance Engineer

Description

Remote Front End Performance Engineer

Join Our Mission to Elevate Web Speed and Experience

Are you the kind of engineer who notices every millisecond of lag? Do you believe that performance is as crucial as aesthetics in web development? If so, this is your opportunity to work remotely in a role where your passion for front-end performance can directly influence millions of user experiences. We’re building web applications that not only look great but load at lightning speed—on any device, anywhere.

What You’ll Do

As a Remote Front End Performance Engineer, your primary mission is to optimize and elevate user experiences by ensuring our interfaces run efficiently, smoothly, and quickly. You’ll work alongside other front-end engineers, designers, and backend teams to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities

  • ✅ Analyze and resolve performance issues across modern web applications
  • ✅ Apply high-impact performance enhancements including deferred loading, code splitting, and critical rendering path improvements
  • ✅ Monitor real-world performance using tools like Lighthouse, WebPageTest, and Chrome DevTools
  • ✅ Work in tandem with product designers and user experience teams to ensure performance metrics align with user needs
  • ✅ Apply responsive and adaptive strategies to ensure fast loading on all devices
  • ✅ Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • ✅ Review code and mentor developers on performance best practices
  • ✅ Utilize telemetry data to make informed decisions for front-end refinement

Our Work Environment

We are a remote-first team that values autonomy, accountability, and technical excellence. You’ll work in a focused, distraction-free environment where performance truly matters. Expect regular collaboration via Slack, video calls, and code reviews—all from the comfort of your home office.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Enjoy:

  • ☑ Independent problem-solving in a remote development setting
  • ☑ Taking ownership of performance benchmarks and seeing improvements in real-time
  • ☑ Creating fast, beautiful, and intuitive user interfaces
  • ☑ Being part of a lean, high-performing team where every contribution counts

Tools and Technologies

We utilize a carefully selected stack to enhance our performance efforts. Your toolkit will include:

  • Chrome DevTools and Lighthouse for auditing performance metrics
  • React, Vue.js, or similar modern frameworks
  • Webpack, Rollup, or Vite for bundling and optimization
  • CDN strategies and caching mechanisms
  • JavaScript profiling tools and custom logging
  • Git for version control and collaborative development

What We’re Looking For

We’re not here to micromanage. We want an engineer who can identify what’s broken, explain why it matters, and fix it.

Core Qualifications

  • ✔ Deep knowledge of front-end architecture and browser rendering behavior
  • ✔ Strong experience optimizing JavaScript bundles and critical CSS
  • ✔ Understanding of Time to Interactive (TTI), First Contentful Paint (FCP), and related metrics
  • ✔ Solid grasp of web accessibility and semantic HTML
  • ✔ Familiarity with continuous integration workflows and version control systems
  • ✔ Experience working on scalable web platforms
  • ✔ Strong interpersonal abilities with a knack for simplifying technical concepts

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • ⭐ Experience with performance budgets and real-user monitoring tools
  • ⭐ Previous work on large-scale SPA or PWA projects
  • ⭐ Knowledge of TypeScript, WebAssembly, or performance APIs

Growth Opportunities

This role is not just about technical contribution. As you grow with us, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Lead performance-focused initiatives across teams
  • Influence our front-end architecture from a speed and reliability perspective
  • Participate in design sprints and feature planning with a performance-first mindset
  • Mentor junior developers and shape performance engineering culture
