Remote Accessibility Web Developer

Description

Remote Accessibility Web Developer

Join the Mission to Build an Inclusive Web

We’re looking for a thoughtful, skilled Accessibility Web Developer who believes in the power of digital inclusion. In this fully remote role, you’ll play a vital part in creating user-friendly, standards-compliant web experiences for everyone, including individuals with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments. If you care about making the internet accessible for all and love solving design and code challenges with empathy, this is where your work will truly matter.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop accessible, responsive web interfaces that prioritize usability for people with disabilities

  • Collaborate with product designers, UX experts, and back-end developers to integrate inclusive features.

  • Audit and test sites using screen readers, keyboard navigation, and accessibility tools to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance

  • Write semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and clean CSS to enhance compatibility with assistive technologies.

  • Build components that are both functionally robust and flexible across devices and platforms.

  • Contribute to accessibility documentation, development standards, and knowledge sharing.

  • Stay current on the latest developments in accessibility legislation, tools, and best practices.

How You’ll Work

As a fully remote contributor, you’ll operate within a flexible, asynchronous work culture. Whether you’re more productive early in the day or late at night, you’ll find space to focus. We value autonomy and trust, and we expect strong communication across Slack, Git, and video calls. Our team thrives on clarity and collaboration, and we’re proud to support a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

Tools & Technologies You’ll Use

  • Front-End: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), React or Vue.js

  • Accessibility Testing: Axe DevTools, Lighthouse, NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver

  • Version Control: GitHub or GitLab

  • Project Workflow: Agile sprint boards (Jira or Trello), Figma for design handoffs

  • Documentation: Markdown, Notion, or Confluence

We’re not strict on specific tools—what matters most is your ability to use them meaningfully and adapt where needed. If you’ve worked with similar tools in past roles, you’ll feel at home.

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid understanding of WCAG, Section 508, and ARIA implementation

  • Experience coding accessible components from scratch

  • Familiarity with keyboard-first design and screen reader testing

  • Ability to translate design mockups into fully functional, compliant web pages

  • Clear communication skills and empathy when explaining accessibility choices to non-technical teams

  • At least 3 years of experience in front-end web development with a strong accessibility focus

  • Comfortable working independently and managing time across remote work schedules

Bonus if you’ve previously led accessibility audits or trained teams on inclusive development practices.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Purpose-Driven Work: Your code will directly improve the digital lives of millions who rely on accessible web experiences

  • Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere, on a schedule that suits your lifestyle

  • Competitive Salary: Annual pay of $82,849 with opportunities for growth and advancement

  • Supportive Team: Work with designers and engineers who genuinely care about inclusivity and quality

  • Room to Innovate: We’re open to fresh perspectives—if you know a better way to build accessibly, we’re ready to hear it

Who This Role Is Great For

  • Developers who see accessibility not just as a requirement, but as a responsibility

  • Problem-solvers who can balance design fidelity with functional flexibility

  • Coders who think beyond syntax and see the real-world impact of their work

  • Professionals who value inclusion, communication, and continued learning

Whether you’ve worked in healthcare, education, government services, or fast-paced startups, your ability to empathize with users and elevate their experience is what counts.

Growth Opportunities

In this role, you’ll deepen your expertise in accessible design systems and inclusive architecture. You’ll have the chance to lead accessibility reviews, shape internal standards, and help mentor others on your team. We invest in your learning with conference passes, courses, and generous education budgets.

As our platform evolves, you could grow into a lead accessibility engineer or specialize in product advocacy and compliance strategy.

If you believe in creating online experiences where no one is left behind, we’d love to meet you. Join a team where your skills will create meaningful change—and where accessibility is a daily practice, not just a checklist.
