Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Remote Senior Systems Administrator to take full ownership of our IT infrastructure. In this strategic and hands-on role, you will oversee the stability, performance, and growth of both cloud-native and on-premise systems. Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
System Architecture & Deployment
- Design and implement scalable, redundant, and secure IT systems across a variety of platforms.
- Maintain hypervisors and virtualized environments while optimizing system workloads.
- Ensure high availability of production services across multi-region deployments.
System Monitoring & Maintenance
- Establish and monitor health checks and performance baselines.
- Proactively identify bottlenecks, perform root-cause analysis, and propose sustainable improvements.
- Document architecture decisions and perform scheduled maintenance with minimal downtime.
Upgrade & Patch Management
- Plan and execute OS and firmware upgrades across platforms.
- Automate patch distribution using configuration management systems.
- Maintain version control standards across production and staging environments.
Network & Security Operations
Access & Firewall Management
- Administer VPN gateways, firewall rules, and endpoint access controls.
- Design and audit segmentation strategies to protect sensitive systems.
- Monitor logs and adjust policies based on anomaly detection insights.
Compliance & Security Protocols
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to enforce governance and audit trails.
- Implement and maintain multifactor authentication, encryption standards, and zero-trust policies.
- Respond to incidents in real-time, conduct impact assessments, and support post-incident reviews.
Threat Analysis
- Run vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Apply critical patches and security fixes based on CVE threat intelligence.
- Harden system configurations to comply with CIS benchmarks and NIST guidelines.
Automation and Scripting
Script Development
- Create tools and scripts to automate repetitive tasks using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Design health dashboards for system insights and resource usage patterns.
Configuration Management
- Maintain reproducible infrastructure using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Leverage Terraform or CloudFormation to standardize infrastructure as code.
Alerting & Monitoring Integration
- Integrate infrastructure metrics with alerting services such as PagerDuty or Opsgenie.
- Develop actionable alerts and runbooks for system recovery procedures.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
Mentoring & Support
- Support and coach junior administrators and IT staff in their technical growth.
- Lead by example in incident response, planning, and decision-making.
Troubleshooting Leadership
- Take ownership during system outages and performance degradations.
- Host retrospective sessions and document improvements to reduce future risks.
DevOps Culture
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration on continuous integration and delivery workflows.
- Advocate for monitoring-first practices and testable infrastructure changes.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- A formal qualification in computer science, IT systems, or a closely aligned technical field
- Certifications strongly preferred: AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or RHCE.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or cloud operations
- Demonstrated success managing enterprise-grade cloud and hybrid environments
Technical Competencies
- Strong skills in shell scripting and infrastructure automation
- Experience with high-availability clusters, load balancing, and disaster recovery
- Familiarity with authentication protocols such as LDAP, SAML, and OAuth
- Skilled in log analysis, kernel tuning, and virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM)
