Remote Scientific Illustrator

Description

Remote Scientific Illustrator

About the Role

Welcome to a place where creativity meets discovery. We're searching for a Remote Scientific Illustrator who’s ready to dive into a world where data and design dance together. Our ideal candidate is a visual storyteller with a firm grasp of science, capable of conveying complex concepts in arresting visuals that resonate. If you’ve ever looked at a dense scientific article and thought, "This needs a visual punchline," you're one of us.

Our Creative Journey

It all started with a sketch on a napkin during a conference break. That one spark evolved into an innovative, research-driven company determined to make science accessible through compelling visual narratives. Today, our team comprises illustrators, animators, and data designers from around the world. We’ve partnered with health organizations, environmental labs, biotech startups, and space exploration teams to give their findings the artistic clarity they deserve. And we’re just getting started.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transform scientific data and research papers into visually stunning illustrations, infographics, and interactive visuals.
  • Collaborate remotely with researchers, scientists, and communication specialists to distill key information.
  • Design visual content for digital platforms, print materials, and presentation decks
  • Maintain a consistent visual language that reflects the integrity and detail of the data.
  • Use creativity to simplify and humanize complex topics without compromising accuracy.

Your Work Environment

Picture this: your creative zone is anywhere with Wi-Fi. Whether it's your sunlit studio, your favorite local café, or a hammock on a breezy balcony, as long as you can connect, you’re good to go. Our virtual team meets weekly via video calls, brainstorming in shared whiteboards and Slack threads. We thrive on asynchronous collaboration, spontaneous emoji reactions, and the occasional digital happy hour.

Tools and Technology

We operate in an environment built on collaboration and high performance. You'll be using tools like:

  • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for static design work
  • Figma and Sketch for wireframes and layouts
  • After Effects and Blender for light animation (if that’s your jam)
  • Miro and Notion for collaborative planning
  • Google Workspace and Slack for team communication

We’re also open to integrating the tools that make your workflow smoother — bonus points if you’ve got favorites to recommend.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience creating illustrations for science communication, educational content, or healthcare visuals
  • Proficiency in scientific visualization and a flair for visual storytelling
  • Familiarity with translating concepts in fields like biology, chemistry, medicine, or physics
  • Strong portfolio showcasing infographics, process illustrations, or data visuals
  • Comfortable working in a remote, self-driven, and collaborative environment
  • Bonus: experience with motion graphics or interactive visual content

Why This Role Matters

Scientific understanding isn’t just for researchers. Your work will help unlock insights for classrooms, conferences, policy-makers, and curious minds everywhere. You’ll shape narratives that inspire action, deepen understanding, and make scientific breakthroughs feel relatable. Whether it’s visualizing the anatomy of a rare marine species or illustrating climate data trends, your art will bridge the gap between evidence and empathy.

Growth Opportunities

We don’t just want a contractor. We want a creative partner. You’ll have opportunities to lead visual campaigns, mentor junior illustrators, propose new formats for client deliverables, and even co-author design-focused blog posts on our site. As we expand our content offerings, you could help pioneer interactive learning modules, 3D visualization libraries, or a branded series of illustrated explainers.

A Bit of Our Humor

We love brains, but we also love brains with jokes. Expect occasional science puns, like "Don’t be so negative—unless you’re drawing an electron," or our favorite tagline: "Where left brain meets right brush."

Equal Parts Talent and Heart

Creativity flourishes in a culture of inclusivity. We welcome illustrators of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. If you’ve faced barriers in traditional workspaces or have a unique lens on the world, we want to hear your story — and help you illustrate it too.

Apply If You’re Ready to:

  • Turn boring into brilliant
  • Explain mitosis with a single sketch
  • Have your visuals appear in global research journals, TEDx talks, and maybe even a satellite mission

Let’s Create Together

This isn’t just another remote gig. It’s a chance to change how people see science — literally. If you’re ready to bring color, clarity, and character to the scientific world, we’d love to see your work.

Apply today and let your visuals speak louder than formulas.
