Role Overview

In this fully remote opportunity, you’ll work closely with a collaborative, globally distributed team committed to creating children’s books that reflect the full spectrum of childhood experience. Key Responsibilities
Visual Storytelling
- Translate manuscripts into engaging scenes that connect with young readers
- Develop expressive, diverse characters and immersive worlds suited for children of varying ages
- Use layout pacing and visual rhythm to maintain attention and guide the narrative
- Revise sketches and final artwork based on collaborative feedback
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with editors, authors, and designers to align illustrations with the tone of the story
- Attend creative check-ins and planning sessions remotely
- Share progress updates and communicate openly about artistic challenges or delays
Final Art and File Prep
- Prepare polished illustrations that are print- and web-ready
- Coordinate with layout teams to ensure proper placement and resolution
- Review continuity across pages for consistency in character details and backgrounds

Tools and Technology
Design Software
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Procreate are our preferred platforms
- Clip Studio Paint, Affinity tools, or other apps that support layered file exports are acceptable
- InDesign experience is appreciated but not mandatory
Communication and Collaboration
- Slack for daily updates and quick team messages
- Zoom for virtual reviews and team sync-ups
- Trello or Asana for managing timelines and tasks
- Google Drive or Dropbox for asset sharing and version control
Qualifications and Experience
Core Requirements
- 3+ years of children’s illustration experience, either freelance or in-house
- A curated portfolio that shows visual narrative skill, character expression, and cultural awareness
- Confidence in using color, space, and motion to engage young readers
- Comfort managing your own schedule and consistently delivering artwork on time

Compensation and Flexibility
